Mercer Landmark Friends and Family,

Through our combined efforts we were able to share a little Christmas cheer with over 400 children in the Van Wert and surrounding areas with our "Toys for Tots" Donations. I would like to personally thank everyone who took the time to donate this year, without you we would not have been successful! You personally contributed 261 toys and over $350.00 in donations! Thanks again for all of your continued support and for a safe and successful harvest. Also, please remember all of our Military Men and Women while they are away from their families during this Christmas Season.

Article from The Van Wert Independent

On Wednesday, August 3, FFA members, along with area farmers and stockholders at area Mercer Landmark branches, attended the Answer Plot. The day was set up by Croplan Genetics, Windfield Solutions, Syngenta (NK Seeds), Land O' Lakes foundation, and Mercer Landmark as a day of education. The goal was to educate area agriculturalists in use of foliar feeding crops, such as corn, soybeans and alfalfa. Participants were also taught how to get the top yield out of soybeans and corn plants to advance the growing world population. Read the full article on The VW Independent.

Ohio City Food Bank Receives Donation from Weeding out Hunger

The Weeding out Hunger™ Road Show, a hunger awareness campaign sponsored by Halex® GT corn herbicide, stopped by Mercer Landmark’s Glenmore branch in mid-March collecting monetary donations for the Ohio City Food Bank. The total amount donated to the Ohio City Food Pantry was $339.00 resulting from a collected amount of $89.00 by Mercer Landmark plus a $250.00 donation from Syngenta, the manufacturer of Halex GT and the sponsor of Weeding out Hunger.Today, more than 50 million Americans are food insecure, which means they have limited access to adequate food due to lack of money or other resources1. In Ohio alone, 14.8 percent of adults and 20.4 percent of children are food insecure according to Feeding America®.

It was startling statistics like these intensified by the recession that led Syngenta to launch Weeding out Hunger with Halex GT in 2010. In its first year, the campaign donated $100,898 and more than five tons of food to 78 food banks across 24 states. Weeding out Hunger continues in 2011 with a total of $100,000 being donated to local food banks in areas where Halex GT is sold.

“During this economic downturn, some people who previously donated food are now the same people who rely on food banks for assistance,” said David Piñon, senior communications manager, Syngenta. “That’s why it’s so important for companies like Syngenta to help bridge the gap in public donations. It is our global mission to help feed 9 billion people by 2050, and we are humbled by the opportunity to act locally when addressing hunger needs through Weeding out Hunger with Halex GT.”

The Middle Point and Ohio City stops were just two out of 60 stops on the Weeding out Hunger Road Show, which collected more than 4,500 pounds of non-perishable food items for donation to local food banks across 12 Midwest states.

Manufactured by Syngenta, Halex GT is Glyphosate with Residual™ for glyphosate-tolerant corn, and outperforms and out-yields any other post-emergence, straight glyphosate corn herbicide program with just one application.

For more information, visit www.weedingouthunger.com and follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/weedouthunger. For every 250 people who “like” the Weeding out Hunger Facebook page, Syngenta will donate $250 to a food bank (up to $1,000).

Syngenta, Mercer Landmark, Inc. Unite to Raise $5,000 for FFA

Greensboro, N.C., March 16, 2011 – Syngenta and Mercer Landmark in Celina, OH have united to generate $5,000 in support of future leaders in agriculture. The effort resulted from the FFA Blue Jacket Program, an exclusive partnership between Syngenta and retail partners which is currently in its fourth year.

Through this valued alliance, for every $2,500 pledged by its retail customers, Syngenta adds a matching donation. Funding supports both the national organization and a local FFA chapter, helping students with personal development, leadership and communication skills and the pursuit of career options in agriculture.

A portion of the total donation is used to improve a variety of national programs, including National Collegiate Agricultural Ambassadors , the American FFA Degree program, Chapter Leadership Continuum conferences , the AgriScience Fair and other FFA programs that assist in promoting agricultural education. Additionally, Mercer Landmark has chosen the Crestview High School FFA in Convoy, OH as the recipient of $500 of the total donation and an official FFA blue corduroy jacket for a chapter member.

“FFA programs are critical in developing student leaders who will excel in the agricultural industry,” said Darren Deffenbaugh, Grain Merchandising Manager with Mercer Landmark. “By collaborating with Syngenta, we’re able to support this vital organization twofold.  First, we reinforce our commitment to our community by giving back to our local chapter, and second, we support a national program that helps instill the core values we look for in employees and customers. This is an important chance to positively impact the future of agriculture, and that’s truly rewarding.”

“We take pride in our ongoing alliance with the FFA Blue Jacket Program,” said Vern Hawkins, president, Syngenta Crop Protection, and 2010 chairman of the National FFA Foundation Sponsors’ Board. “Through this highly valued and jointly supported opportunity, we actively invest in ag education and in the career development of our industry’s future leaders. In addition, this program enables us to strengthen our commitment to agriculture and our retail customers by matching their financial contributions.”

“The Blue Jacket program continues to create a lot of excitement,” said Rob Cooper, executive director of the National FFA Foundation.  It is so important to provide FFA members the resources they need at the local, state and national level – this program does just that.”

Syngenta has been a proud sponsor of FFA for more than 45 years. Through all sponsored FFA programs in 2010, Syngenta and its retail partners, including Mercer Landmark contributed more than $575,000 to support future leaders in agriculture.
